STATS

NAME Lisa I. Turpin (the I stands for Irmingard, but if questioned she'll deny it)

AGE & BIRTHDAY 17; February 5, 1979

HOUSE Ravenclaw

FAMILY

FATHER: Donovan Turpin

MOTHER: Ophelia Turpin (née Hollinger)

SISTER: Belinda Turpin

AFFILIATION Lisa is neither here nor there. She doesn't much care for the D.A., yet she wouldn't choose to support Voldemort either. Lisa often clings to the grey area when it comes to matters of moral importance. Never having been a particularly moralistic person herself, she prefers to ignore the ever increasing turmoil and remain nonchalant. With the way things are heading, however, she won't be able to block out the furor for much longer, and must come to a decision sooner or later.

HISTORY

Lisa was born to Donovan and Ophelia Turpin. Ophelia, a muggle, was at first speechless when she learnt she had married a wizard, but eventually came to understand and accept him with a great amount of love, and soon it seemed only natural that they should have children. Lisa was cared for as every child ought to be. While neither of her parents were in possession of a great deal of wealth, all of Lisa's needs were met, and everything could have turned out spectacularly--but things didn't go quite as expected.

Her parents should have known there was something off about Lisa from the start. Not only did she not cry when born, but she managed to retain a look of utter boredom and complete irritation throughout the procedure, as if to say, "Can we get on with this, please? I have better things to do with my life." As the days went on, however, Lisa's parents came to realize their daughter wasn't like every other little girl. Oh, of course Lisa could be a sweet child, but only when she wanted to. From a very young age, Lisa frowned upon her older sister Belinda's sunny, bubbly disposition, and delighted in all that was cynical, sarcastic, and pessimistic. The main eye-opener for her parents was when Lisa was around the age of seven. Belinda, the older daughter by 5 years, often grabbed Lisa, kicking and screaming, into her bedroom, where she would conduct cruel and unusual makeup experiments (i.e., violation by lipstick, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and blush). Lisa would later get her revenge, however, when she chopped off Belinda's hair in her sleep.

Never a fan of "girl toys," Lisa often beheaded her dolls and instead used the heads as footballs. Her parents were horrified, and immediately scheduled her for some counselling. Being quite overprotective parents, they felt their daughter was disturbed and perhaps had suffered some sort of sexual abuse. The first psychologist they saw maintained that Lisa was a perfectly normal, healthy child, and that she simply had unconventional interests. So, they got a second opinion. And a third. And a fourth. Until, finally, they gave up on Lisa. They accepted that she would forever be the black sheep of the family, but loved her in spite of it. Just not as much as they loved Belinda, perhaps.

Growing up, there was always some sibling rivalry between Belinda and Lisa. The two couldn't have been more unalike. Belinda seemed to have a new boyfriend every week, and was followed by a myriad of girls who copied her every move, hoping to one day be as beautiful and graceful as the lovely Belinda. Strangers stared and some would occasionally stop to ask if she was a model or was interested in a career in modelling. This, then, became Belinda's goal. And Lisa, well, she was simply average--the "ugly" sister--and accepted that, but not without some resentment. While both girls appeared to dislike one another immensely, they wouldn't trade each other for the world. Lisa is nothing if not loyal, even though she purports to hate Belinda and is currently seeking to publish a book of her stolen love letters.

Lisa is a delight for many of the professors at Hogwarts. Being Belinda's younger sister, they expected young Lisa to be as vapid, shallow, ignorant, self-centered, egotistical, superficial, and sexually promiscuous as her sister. But Lisa was certainly a breath of fresh air for them. She doesn't often smile in classes, doesn't often talk, but receives above-average marks and produces well-written essays. Unlike her sister, Lisa can process more than one thought at a time.

Due to Lisa's unending pessimism and frequent complaints (she finds fault with everything), she didn't make the overwhelming amount of friends that her sister had. Despite that fact, she's content with her small circle of friends, and is more than grateful that she doesn't have a gaggle of girls copying her every move, as her sister did. While Lisa's favorite facial expression is the frown, and she rolls her eyes every few sentences, she is capable of being friendly, and has her spurts of laughter and giggling (just not so often that it'd ruin her reputation).

PERSONALITY

In some respects, Lisa is a stereotypical Ravenclaw. That is, she actually enjoys studying (i.e., freak of nature), and is quite fond of writing. She has her moments of wit and cleverness, though she's certainly no fountain of wisdom. Never afraid to speak her mind, Lisa's pessimistic comments have sometimes gotten her into trouble. She tries to hold her tongue, she really does. But when she's around someone like Lavender Brown, she just can't help but point out that giggling lowers one's IQ. Often prone to boredom, Lisa's become extremely tired of life at Hogwarts. She wants desperately to leave, but her parents refuse to let her, arguing that she's the only daughter with brains in the family (Belinda never faired well academically), and ought to take advantage of that.

Lisa is a bit of a tomboy, one could say. That is, she despises anything "girly" and feminine, including but not limited to: makeup, hair accessories, lace, ruffles, bows, the color pink, dolls, skirts, dresses, jewelry, flowers, high heels, perfume, and babies. Lisa can't see herself ever being married, and certainly can't even stomach the idea of having children. She thinks children and babies are absolutely disgusting, especially babies. The idea of being pregnant almost frightens her and she's disgusted by the thought of having some "horrible monster" living inside her body.

Lisa's not exactly blessed in the friends department. At least nowhere near as blessed as her sister Belinda is (that's what a bit of physical beauty can do). Most of her friends are fellow Ravenclaws. And though she does have some friends in other houses, she tends to stay far away from Slytherins, as she is a bit unnerved by them. Not so much unnerved that she'd take off running at the sight of one, but just a general uneasiness and lack of confidence around them. Being a Half-blood and coming from a not-so-particularly-wealthy home, she has reason to be slightly nervous. Of course, Lisa would never let this little fact be known; she tries to suppress most of her fears and anxieties.

When it comes to the opposite sex, Lisa is a bit odd. She's certainly heterosexual; she's positive of that. But she can't help but wish she were asexual at times. It just seems like it would make so much more sense. Comfortable around boys, Lisa isn't one of those girls who blushes whenever a handsome boy happens to say something to her. For the most part, she treats boys just as she treats her female friends. She's certainly no coquette: no giddy giggling or flirtations, no batted eyelashes. Just ordinary behavior.

However, when she does develop a crush (and there have been a few, though not a soul knows), she tends to feel very unusual. She's highly uncomfortable with what she calls "unnecessary emotions" and tries to block them out. So much so that there have been a few times where not even Lisa had known she's had a crush on someone.

Because Lisa's never shown signs of visible attraction to a boy or even talked about boys in a romantic way, there are a number of people at school who assume she's a lesbian. For awhile a rumor went around that she had a secret girlfriend, which Lisa tried to suppress--unsuccessfully.

The fact of the matter is, she just doesn't see herself as the type of girl any boy would want to date. Who would want Lisa when they could date her beautiful sister? Some men might find her attractive, she's sure, but she hasn't come across one to date, as far as she knows.

APPEARANCE

Lisa is of average weight, and stands 5'4" in stockinged feet. Lisa doesn't place much emphasis on appearances, but has always been unsatisfied with hers. Growing up with a beautiful older sister is bound to lower anyone's self-esteem, and she despises looking in mirrors. Having suffered the tortures of makeup at her sister's hands, she's vowed never to wear the stuff as long as she lives. She doesn't understand why anyone would want to wear it in the first place. In Lisa's opinion, it would only mask who she truly is, and though she knows it makes her look "pretty," she wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

Lisa also despises fixing her hair, and often leaves it in pigtails, a ponytail, or just plain all over the place. The texture of her hair, though, is wavy, and she could do a myriad of things with it, but refuses to. Clothing isn't much of an issue in Lisa's world. She's content with her dark, baggy shirts and slightly oversized trousers. One thing Lisa is blessed with are high-set, beautiful cheekbones, and they are most prominent when she smiles. However, since she frowns more often than she smiles, they aren't usually noticed.

GOALS

1. First and foremost, I want Lisa to develop some self-esteem. Having always been "the ugly" sister, she thinks very little of her appearance and would probably benefit from some confidence, in whatever way possible.

2. It would also be très bon if she had someone to crush on and drive herself mad over. Like, seriously, once she develops a crush she turns into an emotional wreck, which could be quite fun (I'm so evil). What would be eeeven better is if the man in question is currently taken. I think she'd probably either hatch a plot to kill the girlfriend or make herself sick over the whole situation. She doesn't deal well with "unnecessary emotions."

3. Oh wouldn't it be loverly if she found someone who she totally meshes with? She needs a fellow pessimist with whom she can complain for hours and not be yelled at. Yes, a fellow professional complainer would be quite nice.
